This high-altitude ski resort is world known for its lively après scene and being a part of the Three Valleys ski area! Val Thorens is the highest resort in the Three Valleys situated at 2300m. A ski in ski out resort which attracts millions of people for its skiing and partying! With a vast range of difficulty, the resort is ideal for intermediate or advanced skiers with only a handful of greens it can get quite overwhelming for beginners. If its high altitude and wide pistes, then Val Thorens is the resort for you.

Hannah's ideal day in Val Thorens

Enjoy a leisurely start from one of the resort's many ski-in, ski-out accommodation options. Head up the chairs from Val Thorens following signs for Meribel. Enjoy cruising blues down to Meribel with incredible views across Les Trois Vallees. From Meribel, head up the other side of the valley towards Courchevel - the perfect place for a lunch stop! Enjoy fantastic views and a burger in one of the many great food spots in Courch 1850m. Get some runs in over in Courch before making your way back slowly across the mountains via Meribel towards Val Thorens. Make sure you're back earlyish so you're in plenty of time for last lifts but more importantly in time for après! Bar 360 is our favourite bar for après drinks and a good stomp before heading down a green back to town and out for a few more drinks.

Beginners

There are many slopes in the heart of the resort for beginners, they are very gentile and provide convenience. Snow-sure nursery slopes with magic carpets and green runs. There are a few options to progress on to in the Lacs and Cascade sectors and some great open blues immediately above the village are ideal for progression.

Intermediates

Val Thorens is a huge playground for intermediate skiers, providing in our opinion the best sector in the Three Valleys. Most of the runs are wide allowing you to practice your carving and turns! Steep reds for the blasts your all craving and great snow conditions due to the altitude of most runs! Especially on the Cime Caron side with many runs facing directly North. Adventuros skiers will want to explore what Meribel and Courchevel have to offer, and thanks to an added blue run, the Orelle Valley is a great way to escape the busiest section of the mountain!

Advanced

Very little of the terrain is rated black runs here in Val Throens. But there are many challenging runs and blacks from the Pointe de la Masse and down into the Orelle Valley. Apart from this the only other challenge is the vast choice of off-piste skiing! The rocky terrain of Val Thorens means its generally better the second half of the season, but the north facing slopes let you enjoy the amazing powder days can be enjoyed well into spring.

Group ski holidays

The après ski and nightlife options are endless in Val Thorens. Whether you are looking for a table stomping party or something more relaxed you will find what your looking for! For the best place to party head straight to La Folie Douce from 2pm onwards this is the place to be! 360 Bar is another bouncing après bar! With live DJ’s creating a wild party a great place to end your day! Bars such as the Frog, Rhum Box, and Le Monde are bouncing almost every night, these bars will stay open until late! There are also many nightclub options in Val Thorens such as Le Monde, Saloon Ba, Baramix and Le Malaysia will let you dance until your feet drop off!
