ALPE D'HUEZ AT A GLANCE

Alpe D’Huez first ski lift opened in the 1930’s – there are now over 80 lifts connecting 280kms of marked pistes from 1250m up to 3330m offering one of the largest vertical drops in Europe! Situated in the Alps in the sunny bowl up at 1860m it is a popular destination for beginners and for party goers! With lots of green and blue slopes for the beginners and enough bars to keep the party animals happy, there is something for everyone at Alpe D’Hues! However, Alpe D’Huez does boast some amazing red runs and some challenging black runs! Including the mega Sarenne – Europe’s longest which plunges down 2000 vertical meters from the summit at Pit Blanc.

Best place to party in Alpe D’Huez
Alpe D’Huez is a very lucky resort to being able to host the amazing winter festival Tomorrowland with artists and Dj’s such as Lost frequencies, Martin Horger, Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix & Tiesto. When the festival isn’t on there is still plenty of après at Alpe D’Huez. La Folie Douce is an experience in itself! Champagne, beers and a bouncing party atmosphere it doesn’t get better than this! There is also the Sphere Bar hosting live bands, a large terrace which is mostly always busy, deals on drinks and a lot of screens showing live sports. The Freeride is a popular choice with its iconic slide down to the bathroom! There are a handful of other bars such as the Underground bar, Smithy’s Tavern, and the L’Igloo nightclub, L’Atelier. Enough party for everyone, some of these bars are open until 5am for the hardcore dancers!

WHY WE LOVE ALPE D'HUEZ

  • A lively and vibrant après ski
  • Perfect resort for beginners
  • Sunny village with lots of other activities

Beginners

Beginners will be well catered for in Alpe D’Huez, with 3 ski schools or instructors to choose from; ESF, Easiski, and British run Masterclasses will soon have beginners exploring the higher, longer slopes of the Alps! A vast variety of long gentle blues and greens will inspire confidence in beginners of all ages.

Intermediates

There are some great long red runs for the intermediates to gain their confidence before challenging themselves to a black! The top half of the mountain is where you should be exploring! Brilliant views of the surrounding Alps up at the top at 3330m!

Advanced

For the more advanced skiers there is much more technical skiing at the top of the mountain. Test yourself to the lengthily Sarenne run – the longest black run in the world, 16km long that drops an impressive 2000m, an epic well-groomed run. If there has been some fresh snow overnight, we definitely recommend heading over to the Tunnel run or the Combe Charbonniére. If you like some off piste there’s no better place, a short hike up to the summit of Pic Blanc from the cable car station opens up some truly incredible off-piste.

Family Skiing

We know travelling with children can be tough, and in a ski resort it can be tricky with ski passes, sorting lessons and equipment. But we can honestly say that is not the case in Alpe D’Huez. The perfect family friendly resort that makes all these little things seem easy! With great ski schools, ski passes suitable for the level of skiing your child is at, short transfer times…There is fun on the hills

with great places like Marcel’s farm and Chez Roger, small half pipes, slalom courses, tunnels and a fun park for kids its fun for all! A real hit with the kids is the torchlit descents that happen through New Year and the busy month of February. If you want something other than skiing the resort offers different activities such as husky rides, airplane flights, ice skating. The list goes on and on!

Ski Schools

ESF, whether you are a beginner or an advanced skier there is always something to improve on, the instructors can give you advice and techniques for your skiing so you can be the best version of yourselves! The friendly, English-speaking instructors are happy to help.

Ski Hire

We recommend Ski Republic for all your ski hire, the team in Alpe D’Huez are happy to help and cater for all.
