HEMSEDAL AT A GLANCE

Hemsedal, or the Scandinavian Alps as it’s often referred to, is one of Norway’s best family-friendly ski areas. Lifts rise out of the base station to points across the three peaks and lead down the 53 pistes, which vary from greens, blues, reds and a few particularly vicious blacks. Solheisen is 12kms from Hemsedal and well worth a day or even an afternoon, this is included in a Hemsedal ski pass.

Duncan's Ideal day in Hemsedal

The Skistar Lodge offers true ski in ski out convenience. I tend to jump on to Fjellreven poma lift as it takes you a little higher than the other lifts. A quick slide down to the Holvin Express 8 person chair. Heading up top Roni and a couple of laps on the 3 man chair taking either the red or blue back down. Then I head over to the summit of Tinden. Here there are some glorious reds back down to the Tindenheisen quad chair. The highest point at Totten is worth a visit - don't be put off by the T bar or green run down - I add this to the new piste 49 and green 52 that ends up by Fyri resort - over 5kms of continuous carving! After coffee and cake it's time to hit the blacks and are cut out of the forest.

WHY WE LOVE HEMSEDAL

  • Family-friendly and easy to navigate resort
  • Snow-sure – 326cm of snow-fall annually
  • Good value, high quality accommodation

Beginners

Beginners after a couple of days with the wonderful Hemsedal Ski School will have no problem exploring two of the three peaks – Tinden and Totten – on wide open green runs.

Intermediates

Intermediate skiers will love ripping up the fast-flowing blues and reds and even tackling blacks 8 and 9.

Advanced

For advanced skiers while the piste map looks a little limiting there are a handful of steep blacks – one is open for evening skiing, but there are plenty of opportunities for off-piste and ski touring. Explore and have some fun!

Family Skiing

Hemsedal has one of the largest children's areas - with beginner lifts, play areas and a great ski school to encourage them to learn to ski through playing. Hemsedal is an incredibly friendly resort and easy to navigate, all runs lead back to the main area too which gives parents peace of mind.

Ski Schools

Hemsedal Ski School offer private and group lessons for skiers and snowboarders. We can arrange lessons for you at the time of booking or add them on at a later date.
