Beginners
Åre is divided into several ski areas, each catering to different skill levels. For beginners, the best areas are:
- Åre Björnen:
- Terrain: This area is specifically designed for families and beginners. It features a wide array of green and blue slopes that are gentle and perfect for learning.
- Facilities: Åre Björnen offers magic carpets and button lifts that are ideal for beginners who are just starting to get used to skiing.
- Ski School: There are excellent ski schools in this area, providing group and private lessons for both children and adults.
- Duved:
- Terrain: Duved offers wide and less crowded slopes which are suitable for beginners. The green and blue runs here provide a good progression from absolute beginner to more confident novice skier.
- Atmosphere: It is a quieter part of Åre, making it less intimidating for beginners.

Ski Schools
Attending ski school in Åre is a fun and effective way to improve your skiing technique.
Anyone aged 7 or over needs a valid SkiPass to attend the ski school.

Intermediates
- Variety of Runs: Åre boasts a diverse range of intermediate runs spread across different areas of the mountain. These runs offer a mix of groomed slopes, allowing for smooth skiing, and some more challenging sections with moguls and steeper pitches.
- This central area has several blue and red runs (intermediate difficulty levels) that are easily accessible from the main village. The slopes here are wide and well-maintained, perfect for practising turns and building confidence.
- Duved and Tegefjäll: Located to the west of Åre By, these areas are known for their quieter slopes and more relaxed atmosphere. Duved, in particular, offers some excellent intermediate runs with gentle gradients and scenic forest trails.
- Åre Björnen: This family-friendly area provides a range of intermediate runs that are great for skiers looking to improve their skills. The slopes here are slightly easier than those in Åre By, making it a good place for progressing intermediates.
- Tottbacken: Situated near the central area, Tottbacken has a few well-groomed red runs that offer intermediate skiers a good mix of challenge and fun.
Advanced
Åre, a premier ski resort in Sweden, offers a variety of advanced skiing options that cater to experienced skiers seeking challenging runs and diverse terrain. Here’s an overview of what advanced skiers can expect in Åre.
- Åreskutan
- The main peak of the Åre ski area, Åreskutan, rises to 1,420 meters and provides some of the most challenging runs. Advanced skiers can enjoy a variety of black runs, off-piste opportunities, and backcountry skiing. The steepest and most difficult pistes, like Störtloppet (the downhill course) and Västra Ravin, offer thrilling descents.
- Stendalen and Långsvängen
- These areas feature some of the longest and most demanding pistes in Åre. Stendalen, in particular, is known for its moguls and steep inclines, providing a test of skill and endurance.
- Svartberget
- This area includes several black runs that tend to always be quiet, making it ideal for those looking for a more secluded and challenging skiing experience.
